Healthy New Year

My wish for families this comming year is peace and health! I am encouraging everyone to visit Chef Alex @ www.healthychefalex.com. In the spirit of giving, all of my links offer freebees. This site has recipes and health tips from Alex Jamieson, A.K.A. Healthy Chef Alex. She is the wonderful chef that helped Morgan Spurlock detox after he binged on McDonalds in the film "Supersize Me."
I have tried her recipes, they're wonderful. Some are exotic, most are very easy to make and all are delicious. The best part is there's a large library of archived recipies. To paraphrase Chef Alex, one of the reasons people are becoming obese is the ritual of cooking our own food has been lost. Creating nutritious and good tasting meals can be done inexpensively and fairly quickly. Communities usually have a local farmers market where fresh, in season fruits, vegetables and herbs are available. Usually these foods are cheaper than in the grocery stores and much fresher because the farmers themselves are bringing the items directly from their farms.
In Sacramento there is a wonderful open air market open on Sundays located on "X" Street between 7th and 9th Streets (under the freeway). I am welcoming anyone to add to this with info about other markets in a 20 mile radius.
Every week I will be featuring a free link for building stronger families. I hope you enjoy! Happy Holidays!!

Great Gift Ideas for Children

Tips for Great Gifts for Children

Aimee's Playhouse Recommendation: Art Materials

Art materials may not last forever, but they foster creativity and help children develop skills that lead to reading, writing, and seeing beauty in life. Fingerpaints, watercolor markers, and large sheets of paper make great gifts.

Toys can teach children to use their imagination, solve problems, build muscles, and figure out how things work -- not to mention how to cooperate. Some other great toy ideas are:

*Toys that are appealing and interesting to the child
*Toys that are proper for that child's capacities
*Toys that are appropriate for the child's emotional
and social develop development
*Toys suitable for individual play or to encourage learning to play with others;
and
*Well constructed, durable toys safe for the age of the child

December Projects

This month at Aimee's Playhouse we are creating fabulous art!!
We found a very creative and useful web site for providers and parents alike to help foster creativity in our children (of all ages):
www.kinderart.com Please visit; your children will thank you for it!

Some of the fabulous project we have done for the holiday season are creating tree ornaments and wreaths with paint prints of our hands and feet, we've been working with melted crayon wax and wax paper to make stained-glass ornaments (equally as beautiful in a sunny window), as well as practicing cutting with our reindeer decorations (which feature our hand prints as the horns and shoe print as the head).

Please keep checking your e-mail, as I have been sending home pictures of your child's day on an almost daily basis.
